In Stitches

Laina is cruising all over the place lately. I think walking is in her near future. With all that new mobility has come lots of bonks and bruises. Wednesday morning she was cruising around the bench in the kitchen, lost her footing, and bashed her head into the corner of the bench. At first I figured she was going to have a big goose egg until I picked her up and saw the blood running down her face. That's right, she busted her head wide open. I managed to keep her hands out of it while Michela ran around getting whatever I told her to get. I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad. After I got her cleaned up, stopped the bleeding, and slapped some steri-strips across it, I rushed her down to the doctor's office.

We were there for 2 1/2 hours!! It took forever! First she saw one doctor who wanted to consult with another doctor.They finally pronounced she needed stitches and got her all numbed up. Then it took a billion years for the nurses to get everything together and for the doctor to have a break in between his other patients scheduled for the day. I felt so bad watching her get strapped into the papoose board and the doctor sewing her head back up. Luckily the numbing gel worked because she didn't flinch a bit. She did however abhor the papoose board, as a little baby she didn't even like to be swaddled. When it was all over she had 3 stitches in her beautiful little baby forehead. Luckily it hasn't fazed her much. After a nap that afternoon she was back to her old mischievous ways and leaving a mess in her wake. Gotta love that resilience.
